Institute for Timber Construction The
Institute for Timber construction (ITC) was formed in South Africa
approximately 40 years ago and was previously known as the Truss Plate Association of
Southern Africa (TPASA). Its
major role is to monitor quality standards in the design, manufacture
and erection of timber roof structures with special emphasis on those
roofs which are the subject of a specific structural Engineering Design
and are manufactured under quality controlled conditions in a factory.
(95 per cent plus of all domestic roofs in South Africa!) In
bringing all the major role players together under the one body the ITC
has created standard specifications and construction details which have
become the industry norms in terms of ensuring the safety of timber roof
structures. All
industry role players can obtain a specific “Certificate of Competence” for
their particular expertise whether it be in design, manufacture,
erection/installation or inspection of timber roof structures. Dealing
with a company which holds a current ITC “Certificate of Competence”
goes a long way towards ensuring your peace of mind. Roof
Inspection Services cc is a member of the ITC and both Victor Booth and
the late Ken Downhams of RIS have played major, personal roles in the development
of industry standards and both have served on the ITC's technical standards
committees for many years. Victor is the current chairman of the
standard's committee. CONTACT
